Summer - woo hoo - for real this time, I hope.
Going to the beach in March was fantastic. Hauling out winter coats in April until about a week ago, fail. Ugh - dang Mother Nature.
Our Farmers Market is open and exploding with fresh produce - just what we have all been craving.
Did you know, the average family throws away over $500 in produce a year?
Seriously, that is a lot of wasted money and food. Not to mention the frustration when you go for food you know you have only to find it covered in green fur and inedible?
In preparing for this post, I brought out all of my FridgeSmart and was delighted to see I used nearly every piece.
However, the green beans stayed in the bag over-night. Now I know that is a big no-no in Tupper-land but I took the lazy route and in the morning I found -
my own science experiment starting. These beans looked fine at the store and within 24 hours they started to mold. Nasty, to say the least.
So I kicked myself, hard, fell to the floor, got back up and did it all again (just for good measure) and then I pitched these bad boys as fast as possible.
Rule of (green) thumb? Bring your produce home and immediately put it in to your Fridgesmart:
1. Naked - don't cut or tear the produce
2. Dirty- don't wash the produce until ready to use
That is right, you heard me - no excuses for molding beans.
Bring it home and toss it right in to Fridgesmart. The guide on the side of the container lets you know how much air the food needs so NO more spoiled food.
Can you imagine - spending $84 on a full set of FridgeSmart that will give you a return of $500 a year? Let's see a CD or Savings Account do that. hmmmm, that is what I thought.
Eat healthy and save money - an awesome combination.

King of the Castle Treat
Father's Day is here!
A time to reflect on all your father has done for you and what a swell guy he is. In my house it is the time of year to show the guys in my house the level to which I expect my Mother's Day to be held for next May.
Ahem - pay attention boys....
For example - feast your eyes on this tasty castle made entirely of rice crispy treats. I owe this bit of inspiration to a new favorite blog of mine, Hungry Happenings. She is a Sweet Genius, without question.
Now this work of art certainly didn't create itself - I had a little help from my friends (hello, my name is Shelby and I am a Tupper-holic and refer to my Tupperware products as friends):
Using my Mix-n-Stor Plus Pitcher, I measured out 6 cups of rice cereal. I ended up using three batches of the recipe to create the entire ensemble, so I used a few spare Mix-n-Stor Pitchers I have on stand-by.
The reason this is note-worthy is that I wanted to be sure I would have cereal enough for all three batches PLUS extra to make sand.
Yes... I said it - to make sand. Check this out - the handy, dandy clear bowl next to the pitchers (above), the one with the green buoy-looking-thing sticking out of the middle, yes, that one, is the Quick Chef Pro System (aka Flurry Maker to my kids). Think "food processor meets environmentalist"and Viola, you have the Quick Chef.
Next, drop 3 tablespoons of butter and a 10oz bag of marshmallows (not marshmellows... as I always seem to prefer - but seriously, what isn't to like about something with "mellow" in the name? What the heck is a "mallow" anyway... just sayin') in to a microwave safe dish.
Now, talk about excitement in my kitchen. Anyone who has been to a Taste of Tupperware party knows what this purple dish is (Stack Cooker) and likely has seen it contain an entire chicken (rotisserie style). Now, I will leave you with that teaser and save an explanation for a later post, but rest assured this fine piece of craftsmanship even makes a mean rice crispy treat, hence my excitement to find an additional use.
Microwave on high for 2 minutes, stir with a spatula. The one featured here is Tupperware's Saucy Silicone Spatula, which is heat-tempered up to 450 degrees. Which means crazy hot and melty butter and marshmallows have no power against it. Look at the puffy, gooey goodness - yum! Stir and microwave for 1 more minute on high. Stir until butter and marshmallow is combined.
Release the cereal! ...in to the Stack Cooker dish, that is. At this point you will want to have soft butter on hand - no really, on hand, your hands, this is the sticky part.
Mix the cereal and marshmallow mixture until coated. Select sand castle molds, clean and spray with Pam ahead of time, and begin spooning the warm cereal quickly, over-filling.
Coat your hand(s) with butter and press cereal firmly in to the mold. Let it cool and harden for a few minutes. Turn out on to your sand and start over until you have all of the structures desired.
In honor of Father's Day and the awesome job my husband does with our kids, we decided on a fun little flag to let him know "UR da King of Da Castle!" as my 11 year old put it. *sigh*
This was a very fun project which showcased more of my Tupperware than I had expected. It made the job a snap and the clean up was just as quick.
I just love a happy ending!
